Programs.

Our services are built around those in our community who need a hand up and those who are struggling. We work to help each client find a way to gainful employment and affordable housing.

We work to help each person find hope.

Referrals

Harbor House can refer clients based on their needs. Using the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) we can access county wide resources.  We help with housing, emergency shelter, meals, employment, legal, medical and psychological services.
Street Outreach
Harbor House staff works with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department on a regular basis.  We reach out to those people who are living on the street and we assist them with their immediate needs.

Case Management

Case management services assist those who are homeless or on the edge of homelessness in becoming more self sufficient. Our case managers help each person create attainable goals and walk  along side them. Our case managers help with life skills like problem solving, money management and conflict resolution.

Other Assistance

We provide assistance to all Ventura County residents with gas and electric bills. Southern California Edison (SCE) assistance is provided once in a 12 month period and The Gas Co assistance is provided once in a calendar year. Gas and bus vouchers are available to clients for medical, employment or education appointments.

Rental  Assistance

Emergency rental assistance for eviction prevention serves low income families and individuals in the Conejo Valley. Eligibility is based upon set criteria and will be determined through an intake.

If eligible, documentation may be required.

Adopt a Family

Harbor House signs up families in the late summer/early fall to be adopted for the holidays. We have approximately 200 families signed up for our initial year.  We then distribute the lists of the families (the children's clothing sizes and gift wishes) to the local houses of faith who have signed up to be part of the program.  Gifts are distributed the week before Christmas.

Mentoring Program

This new Conejo Valley program will connect local at-risk families and individuals with mentors who will assist them in finding resources to navigate daily issues including housing, food, and health. Mentors will be a stable influence who will help to connect mentees with available resources and professionals. We have trained our first group of mentors and are implementing this program, but our plan is to expand the program.

We are taking applications from Conejo Valley adults who would like to volunteer and establish a mentoring relationship with at-risk families/individuals. Mentors will be trained and matched with a mentee after the training. The program will be supervised by Harbor House.
Role of Mentors:
  • Be a listener
  • Help the mentee develop life skills
  • Be a role model
  • Be a friend
  • Provide informational resources to connect mentees with available professionals related to housing, food, and health. (The CVMP will share these resources with you so that you can provide them to those you mentor.)
The Mentor is not:
  • Responsible for the actions of the mentee
  • Providing financial or other direct support
  • A fixer of all challenges of life circumstances
  • The Mentees therapist or doctor
Please complete the application and e-mail to Sheri Groenveld, Operations Director at Harbor House, sgroenveld@harborhouseto.org.
