Dear Friends of Harbor House,
Daylight Savings is a great gift I believe. More sunshine, more light for longer hours. It always feels like we can squeeze more into the day when the sun lingers longer. I hope that Spring is good to you. Harbor House has been inundated with households that are in need of rental assistance. Finding affordable housing in our community is so difficult. So many are living from paycheck to paycheck because of the incredibly expensive costs of living. In particular, elderly men and women, especially widowed, are struggling to pay the rent in places they have lived for years. Our staff have met a great number of elderly men and women living on the edge. Often they have utility bills that are overdue and expensive. And so many find themselves unable to pay the rent. Rental assistance for the widowed elderly continues to be one of the greatest expenses for us. We are currently looking for volunteers to help us in our outreach to find these seniors and assist them in any number of ways. On March 28 at 10am we will be meeting at the Goebel Senior Center with anyone interested in volunteering with us to serve the elderly who are struggling to make ends meet. Please RSVP for this meeting to kyoungman@harborhouseto.org. Wishing you a peaceful and hopeful Spring, Denise Cortes |
